Time limit

What is the time limit of a preliminary enquiry being conducted by the police before lodging an FIR?

No such limit is prescribed in criminal jurisprudence.

if police not registering FIR, approach the Judicial Magistrate having jurisdiction of such Police station under section 156(3) CRPC. and before that give representation to higher officials of police to register FIR.
