Trial just after counter filing?

My divorce case, filed by wife, is going on in family court last one and half years. I've filed the counter last date. So, what will happen on next date? My advocate told me that my presence is a must on next date as wife's examination will take place on the same day and I must be there to listen it. Will trial start before issue framing and evidence stages? Please tell me how the things like issue framing, evidence, witness and trial stages come up and in what order..

You filed the counter almost after one and a half year  ..........

Then you shouldn't be worried about next date...................
