What is Significance of 1st January as New Year

Dear Sir I will be one of those who are ready to boycott this english new year. Lets follow Indian Culture and retain Indian Tradition. Also our year is not 2010 but the indian year is 1931 and yet it is running for next 2 months more.

 We in India celebrate NEW YEAR on 1st January because it does not belong to any religious group or any region.

What is English is mine. What is not ours, we lap it up. Chimpanzees ape. We ape better.

New year accepted around the world. Day to day use we don't write VIRODHI NAMA SAMVASTYRA (YEAR), PUSHYA MASAM (MONTH), PADYAMI (DAY).

We should be adaptable to other culture, language etc.

 Yes, the problem is others are adaptable to our "culture". Considering the present life style, let us debate whether we had a culture that could not withstand the English way of life.

 There are 12 months in a calendar year whether it is from Jan to Dec or April to March. The weather, rain, crops, sun and moon and stars don't care for start or finish of the year. 

Why on earth we have adopted April to March as our financial year? How does it help except to cause utter confusion?

The celeberation of New Year culture is fast spreading,We the learned members could understand,but the common person who are exposed to unfair practice we cannot educate them.Nor stop them

The motto:  Wining and dining.

Its not bout following western culture , its about a reason to celebrate, So wat if there's no difference between 31st dec n 1st jan ;People do get a reason to come together n socialize. Then i think we shudnt celebrate our birthdays too cause its not that suddenly on our birthday u grow up few centimtrs nor ur love increases to new hieghts on ur anniversary. Then there shudnt even b raksha bhandan cause ur love for ur sister shunt come out only one particular day , hehe These reasons r made to enjoy life. N we better stop blaming western culture for every change that happens in india cause changes r unavoidable no matter wat? adapt or perish

In India people celeberate every occasion/event celeberated by others, and worship every god, cult and other things which is worshipable or being worshiped by others.

Punjab - Baisakhi

Assam - Bihu

Kerala - Onam

Tamil Nadu - Pongal

Maharashtra - Gudi Padwa

Gujarat - Navratri

U.P. - Holi 

These festivals are celebrated on regional basis.

But 1st Jan is foreign. So all Indians love to celebrate it. We ape and we are good at it.

The nearest celebration on all India scale is that of Id because Muslims are spread all over India and the common bond that binds them is their religion.
