Dear Mr. Shree,

When a flat electro-encephalogram indicates the final stopping of activity of central nervous system for a statutory determined period, the person is said to be 'brain-dead'. Such a person is dead for all practical purposes and cannot be revived though some of his vital organs may be kept functioning using artificial devices. In India, as far as I have searched, there is no statutory definition and matter needs judicial interpretation which may depend upon the circumstances of the case.
