What options do i have if a friend is not returning lent money

Hello All, I had lent around Rs 25000 around one year ago to a friend. He had promised to return it in one month, but after 3 months, he paid back a sum of Rs. 15000. Ever since then, he has not paid back the rest of the 10000 rupees citing various excuses including financial and medical. We did not make any such formal agreements but I do have records on Whatsapp, Text and Facebook messengers which clearly indicate he has borrowed the money and has acknowledged he has yet to pay back the rest of the Rs 10,000. Request you to please kindly advise.
