hi sirs,

i think , the question is when the sho is on on the road, on law and order duty , an offence takes place and an eye witness gives information about this offence, over telephone to police station, what are the procedure to be adopted by the sho.

in the absence of sho,the next  senior most police officer of the station will be the sho form the time being and he can record the telephonic information in  general diary and send a copy of it to his immediate superior and then register an fir and can start investigation.

if any body disagrees, please write in detail.

read some of the trial court judgments under NDPS Act and Excise Act.  and Arms Act.  All your doubts would be clarified.  What you are saying is not a rare incident.  It happens in several cases.

Is it a serious crime or a petty crime that will determined the issue and not who will sign the FIR.

Agreed with Ld. Mr. Assumi.

However sir, don't revive dead threads.
