The Ministry of Information and Technology exercising its powers under section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 read with Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009 banned 59 Chinese applications on Monday.

The Ministry said that, the applications are “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order”.  Several privacy and security issues including risks of data going out of the Country have also been reported.  It further affirmed that, exhaustive recommendations from Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre and the Ministry of Home Affairs have been received.

The ban is said to have been initiated due to the clashes between India and China on June 15th in Ladakh which costed the lives of 20 Indian soldiers.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) exclaimed this as a success towards their campaign titled “Indian Goods-Our Pride” for boycott of Chinese goods across the Country.
