Addl Sol Gen asks SC for more time to look into Mulayam's case

Additional Solicitor General Mohan Parsaran, who appeared in place of Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramanian, prayed to the Supreme Court to grant him time to go through the brief in disproportionate assets case against former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family members. A bench comprising Justices Altamas Kabir and Cyriac Joseph adjourned the hearing till February 10. CBI was in the dock for taking u-turn in the case by filing an application seeking permission to withdraw its earlier application for modification of the order of the judgement of the Supreme Court dated March 1, 2007. The apex court in its order of March 1 had directed the CBI to conduct preliminary inquiry into the allegations of corruption against Mr Yadav, his son Akhilesh Yadav, an MP, another son Prateek Yadav and daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav, to ascertain whether prima facie case was made against them. CBI was also directed to submit its report to the Union government which will decide future course of action. CBI, in its earlier application, seeking modification of the order had prayed to the court to withdraw the direction directing CBI to submit the report to the Union government and instead the CBI should be permitted to submit the report to a competent court
