BIHAR SPECIAL COURT BILL 2008 GETS CABINATE SANCTION 30 Dec 2008, 2124 hrs IST, PTI PATNA: In a bid to check corruption in the bureaurcary, Bihar cabinet Tuesday cleared the Bihar Special Court Bill, 2008, envisaging special courts to try graft cases against officials. The bill is aimed at taking action against government employees for accquiring wealth beyond their known sources of income. Armed with the Bill's provisions, the state vigilance sleuths would be able to take punitive actions against corrupt government officials and lodge disproportionate asset case against them. Cabinet Secretary Girish Shanker told reporters after the cabinet meeting that government officials, if found guilty, would be booked under DA case and their properties be it moveable and immovable would be seized and they would be tried by a special court. Shanker said the bill also envisaged constitution of a special court headed by a district judge or additional district judge for speedy trial of DA cases. The state cabinet also decided to hand over the closed sugar mills at Sugauli and Lauriya to HPCL and Motipur sugar mills to Reliance Industries Limited on long term lease free from all encumberances. The state cabinet also sanctioned Rs 49.31 crore drainage scheme for Kankerbagh in Patna, the biggest residential colony in the country, he added.
