Calcutta High Court admitted renowned actress Suchitra Sen’s appeal challenging a government order to pay wealth tax for her three flats in the posh area of the southern part of the city.

Justice Indira Banerjee heard the petition and directed the Wealth Tax Department to hear Ms Sen’s argument and settle it within eight weeks.

The Assistant Commissioner of Wealth Tax Department had of late directed Ms Sen to pay wealth tax for her three flats on Ballygunje Circular Road.

Ms Sen moved a petition before an appellate court of the Wealth Tax Department. However, the court dismissed it and upheld the order of the Wealth Tax Department.

Ms Sen then moved the High Court challenging the appellate court order.

Lawyer Ananda Sen appeared for Ms Sen before the High Court.
