An application to summon Kalyan Singh, the former UP chief minister was initiated by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the CBI Court on 8th September, soon after the end of his term as the Governor of Rajasthan.

Kalyan Singh was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh when the mosque was demolished in Ayodhya and was not dragged in the Demolition case that initiated in 2017 due to the Constitutional protection given to him as the Governor of Rajasthan.

The Supreme Court had revived a separate case of demolition in 2017, when CBI pleaded the Apex Court with the charge-sheet of 1993 with Kalyan Singh’s name on it; the Apex Court denied the contention by stating the reason of constitutional protection guaranteed to governors under Article 361 of the constitution.

However, the court also instructed the CBI to proceed with the summoning process soon after he ceases to be the governor. After completing his term Kalyan Singh has returned as a primary member of BJP in Uttar Pradesh.
