Protection of NRI Brides
The complaints received in the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs from Indian women against harassment/desertion by their overseas spouses are forwarded to the authorities concerned including Indian Missions abroad, Police authorities, State Governments etc for taking appropriate action in the matter. Complaints received by the Ministry are as under:

The Ministry has issued guidelines and launched an awareness/publicity campaign to make people aware of such issues. Besides the publication of a guidance booklet on Marriages to Overseas Indians, distribution of multi-lingual pamphlets, seminars, scrolls on TV, audio-visual spots on TV etc., a Scheme has been launched to provide legal/counseling services to Indian women deserted by their overseas Indian spouses through Indian Missions abroad.
An Inter Ministerial Meeting was held in the Ministry to find out ways and means to assist Indian women who are abandoned by their overseas Indians spouses and its recommendations were circulated to state Governments, respective Ministries for follow up action. National Commission for Women (NCW) was nominated as a coordinating agency at the national level to receive and process all the complaints related to such issues.
