MUN, or Model United Nations, is an academic simulation of a United Nations Conference, simulating various organs of the United Nations, such as, the UN Security Council, Human Rights Council, ECOSOC, etc wherein, the students take on the role of ambassadors of various countries in their respective committees to discuss issues of international importance, such as International Security, Human Rights, Climate Change, Food and Hunger, Poverty and other Millennium Development Goals which are part of the United Nations agenda. A MUN works according to FORMAL RULES OF PROCEDURE of the actual committee and that is what sets it apart from any other event in the world.
Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN) is the world's oldest College Model UN conference founded in 1955 and now has an annual participation of over 3000 students who come together from all over the world. Model United Nations is a widespread event, taken up by leading institutions, with the endeavour to encourage the pursuit for knowledge and information.These conferences are recognized and affiliated to the United Nations Information Centers across the world and are encouraged for the outstanding work they do in informing students about the United Nations and the pertinent issues existing in different countries over the world.
