Former Chief Justice of India J S Verma has said no action was taken by the Prime Minister’s Office on his recommendation for impeachment of a High Court Judge during his tenure as CJI from March 1997 to January 1998. Justice Verma in his interview to an English Daily Mail Today, has alleged that he has sent his recommendation to the PMO and no further action was taken. He had sent his recommendations to the PMO after a thorough inquiry by a Supreme Court collegium comprising himself and two other senior most judges of the apex court. Action against a High Court or a Supreme Court judge for his removal on grounds of corruption or judicial misconduct depends on the will of the Executive and Parliamentarians to act, Justice Verma said.
