In an attempt to ensure smooth functioning of the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), a bill would be introduced in Parliament soon to amend the Act governing the strategic think-tank. "The draft of the amendment was approved by the Union Cabinet," Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi told reporters after the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The amendment in the 2001 Act would give effect to "smooth and effective functioning" of the ICWA, he said. The amendment would provide for appointment of a suitable person, holding the rank of Additional Secretary or an equivalent post in the central government, as the Director General of the Council. Dasmunsi said the Director General would hold the office for a period not exceeding three years and would be eligible for reappointment. However, in case of reappointment, the person cannot hold office beyond the age of 65 years.
