The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 came into force on 14.11.2012. It is only 3 years since the Act has been in force and even the data for the year 2015 is under collection, therefore a review of the Act is not planned at this stage. However, Section 44 of the POCSO Act, 2012 empowers the NCPCR and State Commission for Protection of Child Rights for monitoring the implementation of the provisions of this Act in such a manner as may be prescribed.
On 14.01.2016, Ministry of Women and Child Development and NCPCR jointly held a consultation with all stakeholders responsible for implementing the POCSO Act. During the consultation it was emphasized that there is a need for dissemination of information, creation of awareness and registration of cases under POCSO Act.
In 2014, out of 406 cases in which trial was completed under POCSO Act, conviction was done in 100 cases.
