Justice Ravi Shanker Jha assumes the office of Acting Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court

Hon’ble Justice Shri S.K. Seth retires from the post of Chief Justice of M.P. High Court, Justice Ravi Shanker Jha assumes the office of Acting Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court

The Madhya Pradesh High Court completing its 63 years of establishment has seen 25 Chief Justices in its golden journey and has provided various Chief Justices of India & at present majority of Supreme Court Judges have been associated with the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Justice Shri S.K. Seth assumed office as the 25th Chief Justice of M.P. High Court on 14th November 2018 succeeding Hon’ble Justice Shri Hemant Gupta, who is currently presiding as the Judge of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. Justice Seth is expected to retire on 09th -10th  June 2019, the date on which he will complete 62 years of age.

In lieu of the retirement of Justice Seth, a notification was published in the Official Gazette by the Central Government’s Ministry of Law & Justice filling the vacancy of Justice Seth by appointing Justice Shri Ravi Shanker Jha who is at present the senior-most judge after Justice Seth- as the Acting Chief Justice of the M.P. High Court, who will assume the office & charge of Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh from 10th June 2019.

There were anticipation around the corner that Justice A. Kureshi of Gujarat High Court will be appointed as CJ of M.P. High Court after his name was cleared by the Supreme Court (SC) Collegium by virtue of its 10th May resolution, but the same was not approved by the Central Government because of the adverse order passed by him against the ruling dispensation and some brisk smell of wrong in his transfer to the Bombay High Court last October.

We congratulate the newly appointed Acting CJ of Madhya Pradesh High Court and look forward to the appointment of 26th Permanent Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court.
