Madras High court stated the importance of holding intermediaries responsible for the content shared by user as seen recently, fake news; misinformation and hate speeches reach a subsequent amount of people and have a psychological impact on them leading to different actions and unrest.

The Court observed that these platforms avoid liability for the damage that has been causes through their use. The defendant whatsapp contended that media companies are trying to bring self regulation policies and are already in deliberation with the government. Further linking aadhar with social media profile will be a action action the right to privacy.

The court asserted that fundamental right to privacy is not absolute in India, and the doctrine of privacy cannot be above the peace of the society. But the Court also denied accepting the plea for connecting the Aadhar with social media accounts. The matter is adjourned till October 1st.
