New Delhi: Irked that a woman levelled false rape allegations against her husband as a pressure tactic to force the couple’s parents to accept the marriage, Delhi HC has slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on her. Quashing an FIR lodged by her in September which alleged she was raped by her husband, Justice Aruna Suresh asked Kavita (name changed) to cough up the amount and deposit it with Delhi Legal Services Authority. The court has given a week’s time to the 23-year-old woman to deposit Rs 10,000 as legal aid for misusing the process of law. Kavita was staying with her family in Lodhi Colony where she fell in love with her neighbour. The two got married in May but soon, they developed differences as her husband, Hosiyar Singh (name changed) worked as a driver. She left her husband and filed a complaint of rape against him on September 2 this year. Police registered a case of rape and a medical test of the victim was done which confirmed she had a sexual relationship. On September 4, the police arrested Singh and he was sent to judicial custody. Singh later told a magistrate’s court that he was married to the girl and said that he would remarry her as per the rituals and the case should be withdrawn. When the court asked the victim, she said they had arrived at a compromise and two remarried on October 3 at Arya Samaj Mandir. Interestingly, the Lodhi Colony police too attended the wedding.
