WHO WAS BAPSI NARIMAN? 

  • Bapsi F. Nariman, the wife of well-known jurist Fali S. Nariman and mother of Supreme Court judge, Justice Rohinton Nariman, was never dimmed by the leading lights in her household.
  • Bapsi was born and brought up in Bombay. Her father was an affluent building contractor.
  • She passed away at the age of 89 years on June 9, 2020, in New Delhi.
  • She and Fali Nariman tied the knot in 1955. She has been mentioned dotingly in Fali Nariman's autobiography, "Before Memory Fades".
  • Bapsi had a natural talent for cooking and authored a series of successful cookbooks.
  • Her books include 'A Gourmet Handbook of Parsi Cuisine' and 'Traditional Parsi Dishes', have become regular references for learning about Parsi cuisine. She also authored Microwave Cooking for the Indian Palate and Cooking with Yoghurt. Her most recent book was Rush Hour Cookbook: Great Dishes in 30 Minutes or Less.
  • Bapsi was also involved in the Delhi Commonwealth Women's Association and edited the association's cookbook.
  • She was a dynamic member of The Time and Talents Club, which organised a variety of events and ran the famous Victory Stall restaurant near Apollo Bandar. The events of the club were organised to raise money for charity.
  • She was the strength of the Delhi Parsi Anjuman and also took part in all their programmes and contributed to their causes.
  • Bapsi is survived by her husband Fali, son Rohinton, daughter-in-law Sanaya and daughter Anaheeta.
  • Her neighbours and friends remember her as "the rock of the Nariman family and an impressive and independent-minded woman".
