Protecting Protesting Farmers, Stop Propaganda Against Sikh Community, Probe In To The Death Of Sikh Youth During Farmers Protest

OVERVIEW

A plea looking for directions to the authorities for ensuring safety and protection of farmers protesting at Singhu, Ghazipur and Tikri borders and also to make sure that basic amenities are supplied to them.

Advocates Sanpreet Singh Ajmani and Pushpinder Singh have also filed a suit to seek an independent inquiry in the incident of death of a young boy during the protest. It has been alleged that he was shot by gun, but the PMR states that shock and hemorrhage due to head injury is cause of death. The eye witness to the incident has also been reported dead.

WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW?

The petitioners have asked that the iron nails and cemented barricades should be removed as they have been put illegally to prevent farmers’ access to the place of protest. They have also asked for an uninterrupted internet access.

It has also been stated that the farmers are disturbed due to the propaganda and hate news which is being published by various news channels. Therefore, they have requested that the media should be restricted from spreading such news against entire Sikh community as they are terming them as terrorists.

The case law of AnuradhaBhasin vs. Union of India was referred by the petitioner to argue that internet shutdown in the border areas is a violation of fundamental rights [Article 19 (1) (a)] of the people who are protesting.

WHAT ARE THE REQUESTS OF THE PETITIONER?

In the prayer, petitioners have asked the SC to order authorities so that safety and protection of farmers protesting at borders is made sure in the interest of justice.

They have also asked to issue orders so that there is a guarantee that basic needs like water and electricity will reach the farmers.

They also want the constitution of a judicial enquiry which can present its report about the farmers who have gone missing. Also, so that the horrors faced by protestors is reported.
