What Is The Petition

● A petition was filed with the Supreme Court, asking for effective directions to be followed in order to encourage door-to-door vaccination of residents, including the aged, differently-abled, poorer sections of society, the underprivileged, and those who were unable to register for the vaccination.

"The COVID-19 vaccination would be based on the concept of 'We are only as powerful as our weakest connection,' and denying vaccination to even a single individual, for any cause, will be counterproductive to the greater public good."

● The petitioner referred to India as a "welfare state," claiming that it is the nation's responsibility to ensure the welfare and interests of all citizens. The government had raised the reasonable expectation that the vaccine would be procured and distributed to all segments of society in a well-coordinated manner.

● The COVID-19 vaccine is a life-saving medication, according to the petition, and it should be included in the Essential Commodity List of medicines. It also sought a pan-India toll-free number where those economically disadvantaged people and other members of society who might be unable to register themselves could do so.

● The petition also suggested that the promotion/advertising of the same could be done through a variety of ads or government hoardings in order to raise awareness among such groups.
