CASE BACKGROUNDS

CASE PROCEEDINGS

  • On Tuesday, the Supreme Court engaged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to affirm the health conditions of former Congress chief Sajjan Kumar, who's serving his life imprisonment in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case and is in search of interim bail on fitness and health grounds.
  • A division bench of Hon’ble Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Hrishikesh Roy issued word to the CBI on Kumar’s plea and requested it to record an affidavit inside every week after verifying his improving or deteriorating health condition.
  • Senior advocate Vikas Singh, appearing on the ex-MP's behalf, stated Kumar needs to be taken to a private health facility for his remedy as his situation had now no longer been decided at a government clinic here.

  • Appearing for the complainant, Senior advocate ​Dushyant Dave stated that Kumar was given anticipatory bail from the high court in 2010 and he was despatched to prison only and only after he became convicted through the high court.
