As many as 50 judicial Benches will be set up during the Mega Lok Adalat to he held at the Ludhiana District Headquarter Judicial Court Complex and at Sub-Divisions Headquarters on December 20 and 21. Of these, 34 benches will be conducted at Ludhiana, eight at Jagroan, five at Khanna and three at Samrala.
This was disclosed by District and Sessions Judge GK Rai while addressing a press conference here today.
Rai said that Justice Mehtab Singh, Punjab and Haryana High Court judge and Punjab Legal Services Authorities Executive Chairman will supervise the proceedings of the Lok Adalat in the district. He said that around 20,000 cases relating traffic violations, matrimonial disputes, cooperative disputes, criminal cases, accident and revenue cases will be settled.
He added that not only the matter pending before the judicial courts but also revenue authorities or statutory tribunals constituted under any law including industrial tribunals, labour courts, consumer forums and other quasi-judicial authorities will also be taken up.
He added that steps were being taken to persuade parties to resolve disputes and work out modalities before the adalat begins. He said that during the Mega Lok Adalat, a large number of pending cases could be cleared providing a major relief to litigants. Rai said that the settlement of traffic challan cases was a big relief to people as in the adalat the quantum of fine was much lesser than the fine imposed by the DTO.
Judge Rai further added that Lok Adalats could also ensure substantial relief by way of charging low penalties while settling cooperative societies’ loan case disputes.
