Justice Kureshi's Exclusion From Supreme Court Raises Questions

Justice Akhil Kureshi’s name has not been included in the list of judges who were to be elevated to the Supreme Court. This refusal to include Justice Kureshi has sparked a huge controversy among the members of the legal fraternity. The controversy had started in 2018, when he was about to be the Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, but was transferred to the Bombay High Court.

Justice Bela M Trivedi Becomes The First Woman Judge From Gujarat HC To Be Elevated To The SC

Justice B M Trivedi has become the first woman judge to be elevated to the Supreme Court from the Gujarat High Court. Justice Trivedi would be taking oath on August 31, 2021. Justice Bela Trivedi will be the only judge in the Supreme Court at present to come from the trial courts. She has also served as the Law Secretary to the Government of Gujarat.

Young Lawyers Make Arbitrators Of High Integrity

The case was of M/s Supreme Cylinders Limited v. Anurag Deepak & Anr. The decision was given by Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice M R Shah. The Supreme Court Bench remarked that it is in the interest of Alternate Dispute Resolution if young counsels are appointed as arbitrators, as they are diligent and willing to operate at minimal costs.

SC Directs Compulsory Retirement Of Judicial Officer

The case was of High Court of Judicature of Rajasthan v. Bhanwar Lal Lamror. The decision was given by Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice Sanjiv Khanna. The Court observed that a solitary remark regarding lack of integrity is sufficient to order compulsory retirement of a Judicial Officer. The Bench directed the reinstatement of a judicial officer who was compulsorily retired.

P S Narasimha Becomes 9th Lawyer To Get Direct Appointment As SC Judge

Senior Advocate Pamidighantam Sri Narasimha would be swearing in as a judge of the Supreme Court on 31st August 2021. He will be the ninth Supreme Court judge to be directly elevated from the Bar and might also become the Chief Justice of India before his retirement is due in May 2028. Narasimha had served as the Additional Solicitor General of India from May 2014 to December 2018.

Act Of Leaving National Flag In Hoisted Position Not An Offence

The case was of Gaurishankar Garg & Another v. The State of M.P. The decision was given by Justice S A Dharmadhikari. It was stated that flying of the National Flag between sunset and sunrise is not prohibited by law. Such an act cannot be held to be a contemptuous act.
