SC Upholds Rejection Of Candidature To Judicial Post Citing Absence Of Honourable Acquittal In Criminal Case

It was observed by the court that a common man's perception about credentials of judicial officer is vital and the lack of honourable acquittal will undermine public faith. The case was of Rajasthan High Court v. Akashdeep Morya. The decision was given by Justices KM Joseph and PS Narasimha.

Existence Of Alternate Remedy Does Not Bar Exercise Of Writ Jurisdiction If Order Is Challenged For Want Of Jurisdiction

The case was of Magadh Sugar & Energy Ltd. v. State of Bihar. The decision was given by Justices DY Chandrachud, VikramNath and B V Nagarathna. It was observed by the Court that even if an alternate remedy exists, a High Court can exercise its writ jurisdiction if the order of the authority is challenged for want of authority and jurisdiction which is a pure question of law.

After the Rohini court shooting, legal professionals voiced the urgent need for a dedicated police force to ensure safety of the judges and litigants.
