SC directs TN Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Justice Kanna Dasan to remain on leave

The Supreme Court directed the chairman of Tamil Nadu Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Justice Kanna Dasan to proceed on leave till the final disposal of his petition filed in the apex court.

A bench comprising Justices S B Sinha and Mukundakam Sharma issued the directions when the two petitions filed by Justice Dasan and Tamil Nadu government were mentioned before the court for urgent hearing.

The two petitions have been filed against the Madras High Court order dated December 12, 2008 questioning the government order appointing Justice Dasan as chairman of Tamil Nadu Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.

The apex court had earlier refused to confirm Justice Dasan as permanent judge of the High Court in view of his ‘murky and unsatisfactory track record.’ Justice Dasan, who was additional Judge of the Madras High Court, was not confirmed.

The apex court fixed the two petitions for hearing in the fourth week of January 2009.
