Petition challenges Soren acquittal in Shashi Nath Jha case, SC issues notices The Supreme Courthas issued notices to former Union Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief Shibu Soren and the CBI on a petition filed by his murdered secretary Shashi Nath Jha's brother challenging Soren's aquittal by the High Court in the murder case. A bench, comprising Justices Altamas Kabir and J M Panchal issued notices after hearing counsel for Amar Nath Jha, brother of the deceased who contended that the Delhi High Court had ignored the evidence and committed a grave error by interfering with the trial court's decision, in which Soren was sententenced to life imprisonment. Body parts of Shashi Nath Jha, who was PA to Soren were recovered from a house in Laxmibai Nagar near Sarojini Nagar. The CBI had challenged the Delhi High Court order but did not challenge the aquittal of Soren. According to the petitioner, his brother was murdered at the instance of Soren for fear of being exposed by him. The petitioner also alleged the CBI has deliberately not filed appeal against the aquittal of Soren as he is an ally of ruling UPA at the Centre. The petitioner has also contended that there were sufficient evidences against Soren and therefore the High Court's judgement should be set aside and that of the trial court should be restored. The High Court relied on the fact that it could not be scientifically proved that the parts of the body recovered were that of Shashi Nath Jha. UNI
