AFZAL ANSARI TO BE PRODUCED BEFORE LS SPEAKER TODAY 12/24/2008 Afzal Ansari, the jailed Samajwadi Party (SP) MP and prime accused in the BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai murder case, was taken to New Delhi for a hearing before Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today. The MP, charged with violation of party whip, would be produced before the Lok Sabha speaker regarding the termination of his parliamentary membership. He has been taken to New Delhi amid tight security on Sadbhavana Express. Earlier, the local courts had turned down the application, seeking permission to visit the Parliament for the hearing. However, after hearing into revision petition on the initiatives of the administration, the Allahabad High Court had granted him the permission on December 18. The district administration had moved the HC after District Judge Anil Kumar Srivastava denied the permission for the same on November 24. On December 8, 2005, Afzal had surrendered for his involvement in the BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai murder case. Since then, he was lodged behind the Ghazipur jail. The Samajwadi Party (SP) had filed a petition against the MP after he voted against the party during Trust vote in the Parliament.
