NOTICE ORDERED TO TOP CITY SCHOOLS ON KG ADMISSIONS 31 Dec 2008, 0237 hrs IST, TNN CHENNAI: A total of 14 private schools in the city, which have closed pre-primary class admissions for this academic year, were issued notices by the Madras high court on Tuesday. The notices were issued after a journalist filed a public interest writ petition questioning the rationale behind these schools holding interviews for three-year-olds, and laying down conditions relating to academic qualifications and income of the parents. A vacation bench, comprising Justices V Dhanapalan and M Sathyanarayanan, admitted the petition after advocate K Balu argued that private schools did not adopt a uniform procedure for admitting children to pre-primary classes, and that parents and children were forced to undergo interviews, contrary to several statutes and Supreme Court rulings. The following are the schools which the petitioner cited in a representative capacity and which were issued court notices: GRT Mahalakshmi Vidhyalaya School, Ashok Nagar; Balamandir Primary School, T Nagar; Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Egmore; Little Flowers Nursery Primary School, GA Road; Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School, KK Nagar; Rani Meyyammai Primary School, Gandhi Nagar; Tulsi Adarsh Vidhya Nursery Primary School, Purasawalkam; Rajaji Vidyashram School, Kilpauk; Pon Vidyashram School, Valasaravakkam; St John’s International Residential School, Nazarethpet; Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Adyar; Chettinad Vidyashram, RA Puram; Schram Academy, Maduravoyal; and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Anna Nagar.
