The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Thursday moved to the Delhi High Court seeking quashing of a single judge's order which stayed the Acting Director's decision to permit a former ad-hoc registrar to rejoin duty. Filing a petition before the Division Bench of Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Reva Khetrapal, the counsel for AIIMS submitted that the single judge had ignored the fact that the petitioners (a group of doctors) had nothing to do with the matter involving rejoining of V P Gupta from 7th January this year. The Counsel also sought quashing of the stay order passed by Justice Anil Kumar last month. On 28th February, putting a stay on the decision, Justice Kumar said "Gupta would not be permitted to join the duty as registrar till the court's further order" and fixed 13th April as the date for further hearing of the petition. The Court had also stayed Acting Director Tirath Dass Dogra's order for release of Gupta's financial dues pertainign to period from 6th March, 2007 to 7th January, 2008, during which Gupta was not on duty as he was removed from the post by former Director P Venugoapl. The single judge had passed the order on a contention made by the faculty association of AIIMS doctors that Institute's Acting Director violated this court's March 2007 order for appointment of a person on regular basis. Instead of complying with the court's order he allowed Gupta to rejoin.
