Allahabad HC Penalise UP Board For Awarding Less Marks To Deserving Girl 12 Feb 2009, 1902 hrs IST, PTI Text: ALLAHABAD: Taking a strong view of a girl student awarded less marks than she deserved in her Class X exams, the Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board to pay her over Rs 5000 in compensation, besides asking the authorities to ensure her admission to Class XI in a conveniently-placed college. The order was passed by Justice Rakesh Tiwari, who allowed the writ petition of Kumari Ragini from Mahoba district, who had challenged her Class X results, in which she had been declared "failed" because of scoring only 20 marks in the Sanskrit paper. Her answer script was thereafter produced before the court, where it was re-examined by competent authorities who submitted that the petitioner deserved 49 marks, 29 more than she actually got. The petitioner's counsel had argued that the anomaly has jeopardised the the petitioner's academic career and demanded a compensation of Rs 29,000, at the rate of Rs 1000 for every single mark added to her tally. However, the court, in its order dated 29.01.2009, ruled that the compensation shall be at the rate of Rs 200 per additional mark, i.e, a total of Rs 5800, which shall be paid to the petitioner by the Board. The court also directed the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS), Mahoba, to ensure that she gets admitted to the next class in any college in her vicinity.
