MAN CHALLANED FOR NOT WEARING HELMET WHILE DRIVING CAR 13 Feb 2009, 1837 hrs IST, PTI Text: ALLAHABAD: A local court here has issued summons to a traffic policeman for having challaned a person for not wearing a helmet, though the commuter was driving a car. The incident took place on December 5 last year in Naini locality of the district's trans-Yamuna region when a local businessman Premchand Kesarwani was stopped at the "Leprosy Mission" traffic intersection, court sources said. The traffic policeman on duty, head constable Nripat Singh, first examined the papers of Kesarwani's car and thereafter challaned him for "driving a scooter without a helmet". Following this, Kesarwani moved the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate with the allegation that some relatives of Singh wanted to visit the pilgrimage town of Vindhyachal, for which the head constable had asked him to borrow his car. When Kesarwani refused, the policeman got enraged and challaned him. Kesarwani also produced before the court the challan sheet which mentioned the registration number of his car and yet described the type of vehicle as a "scooter". CJM Rajesh Upadhyay yesterday issued a summons to the head constable to appear before the court on February 18 and show cause why action should not be taken against him.
