Kapil Dev Deposes In Delhi HC 2/14/2009 Legendary cricketer Kapil Dev, who is batting for the cause of cricketer’s pension from BCCI, deposed before the Delhi High Court. The ‘Haryana hurricane’ has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court and urged that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) be directed to release the pension due to him and other players, who joined the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL). In the hearing scheduled before the Joint Registrar P K Jain, former captain answered the questions put to him by the BCCI’s lawyer Amit Sibbal and his deposition was completed after the cross questioning for more than two hours. Himanshu, business head of IPL, will give his testimony on February 20, the next date of hearing. Maninder Singh and Pratibha Singh lawyers for Kapil have urged the court to conduct a speedy trial so that the players who have served the nation get their dues. There are total six witnesses in the case including Kapil Dev and former BCCI selector Kiran More. India’s first bowler to cross the 400-wicket mark, who fell out of favour with the authorities following his decision to back the Indian Cricket League (ICL), has argued that a player should not be denied pension for services rendered just because he sides with what the BCCI has termed a ‘rebel’ venture.
