Delhi HC Rejects Thounaojam's Bail Plea On Allegations Of Abetting Terrorism Dated:18-02-2009 Source: UNI DELHI: The Delhi High Court declined to grant bail to Thounaojam Shyam Kumar, who had contested two assembly elections in Manipur, as he was accused of abetting terrorism. Refusing to grant a regular bail to the petitioner, Justice S Muralidhar directed him to surrender as his interim bail came to an end. Kumar, is an active member of the Indian Nationalist Congress-I Manipur. He had contested assembly elections in 2001 from National Congress Party (NCP) and in 2002 from Congress-I but lost both. He was alleged to be involved in various crimes in Meghalya and Manipur and accused of smuggling classified military documents to Nepal, besides active participation in terrorist activities. He is alleged to be part of the banned UNLF terrorist outfit and reported to have accompany two high profile terrorists to Kathmandu, Nepal on October 2, 2006. Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who was killed in the recent Batla house encounter, arrested him at the IGI airport along with two people-- Maibam Milan Singh and R K Romeo, who were carrying fake identity cards apparently issued by the Forest Department, Government of Manipur, Imphal. Later, it was revealed during investigation that Kumar provided logistic support to the banned terrorist outfit KYKL (Kaanglei Yaawolkannaaa Lup )and the UNLF. Earlier, he was granted interim bail on health grounds, but the court refused to extend it to regular one and directed the investigating agency to take him to custody as his interim bail expired.
