HC Sets Up Committee To Monitor Children's' Homes Dated: 19-02-2007 Source : Bureau Report New Delhi : TEXT: A three-member committee, including a district judge, was constituted on Thursday by the Delhi High Court to monitor the living conditions in children' homes. Directing the NCT government to take proper care of the children staying there, the Court asked the committee to monitor whether the department concerned was providing good food and adequate medicines to the children. A Division Bench of Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice Sanjiv Khanna directed setting up of the Committee comprising of Chairperson of Child Rights Commission, a District Judge and Secretary of the Social Welfare Department of Delhi government. Seeking a report within three months, the Bench asked the new committee to monitor as to whether the concerned department have complied with the recommendations given by the previous committee, set up by it, to improve the living conditions for children. Expressing anguish over the city government's failure for proper maintenance of the homes and providing clothes to children, the Bench yesterday said "in case of non-compliance of our orders, the officers will be held responsible". The court was hearing a PIL seeking directions to the government for proper care of children staying in homes run by the government.
