Observing that there should be a doping-free environment in view of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the Delhi High Court sought a reply from the Center on a PIL alleging that the Indian Olympic Association was ignoring international guidelines on the matter. A Division Bench of Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Reva Khetrapal, also sought detailed affidavit from the National Dope Test Laboratory (NDTL) and the National Anti-Doping Agency, besides the Sports Authority of India, by 14th May. "The National Anti-Doping Agency is directed to see there is no case of cheating. The agency has to be properly geared up to maintain doping-free environment for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games," the Bench observed. The Court asked the Sports Ministry to furnish the guidelines which the laboratory follows while conducting the doping test. "We would like to know under which guidelines, the authorities carried out the investigation on doping before and after 2001," the Court said. The Bench was hearing a PIL filed by Sunita Godara through her NGO National Fitness Trust. She sought a direction to the Sports Ministry, Sports Authority of India and the Indian Olympic Association to adopt the procedure in consonance with the guidelines issued by the International Olympic Federation. "Due to the faulty procedure adopted by the federations of the concerned games, the athletes who take drugs get qualified and get caught in the international doping test," the petitioner said and sought the test should be done by an internationally accredited laboratory.
