Madras HC passes strictures on police The Madras High Court came down heavily on the state police for violating its order dated February 19 and registering a case only on the burning of the police station in the premises of the high court. A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice S J Mukhopadhya, Justices V Dhanapalan and K Chandru, in their interim order on a suo motu case relating to lawyers-police clash, said the court’s order has not been complied with by the state government and police. On February 19, the court took note of all the relevant facts, information received from various sources and counter claims made by the police and the lawyers. The details regarding the timing of the incident have been shown in the order and in that order it has also been mentioned that the court passed the order at about 1840 hrs, the bench said. The order was dictated in the presence of the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Director-General of Police, Commissioner of Police, Government Pleader and certain Lawyers. It was ordered to forward a copy of the order to the Secretary to Government Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India, New Delhi, who in turn was directed to forward the same to the Director, CBI for investigation.
