With the announcement of poll dates for the Lok Sabha, the Election Commission on Wednesday ordered strict implementation of the model code of conduct in the national capital where elections are due on May 7. Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Satbir Silas Bedi in a meeting directed all the stakeholders, including civic agencies and police officials, to strictly implement instructions related to enforcement of model code of conduct. "Returning officers have been directed to constitute teams of officials belonging to police and local bodies with the facility of videography equipment for monitoring any violation of model code of conduct," a senior official said. He said Bedi has also directed the agencies and police to strictly enforce the newly enacted Act "The Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007" recently notified by the city government. Ms. Bedi later also held a meeting with major political parties who were informed that "advertisements of political nature on television channels, radio and cable network will be strictly monitored." "A panel has been constituted for pre-viewing, scrutinising and certifying advertisements to be telecast over TV channels and cable networks by any registered political party or by any group or organisation/association having headquarters in the city," she added.
