AP HC stays case against Soumya HYDERABAD, 7 Mar 2009 : Justice K C Bhanu of the AP High Court on Friday stayed proceedings in a criminal case against Visakhapatnam DIG of police Sowmya Mishra and police inspector B V G Prasad till further orders. It may be recalled that Srikakulam SP Ch Srikanth had filed a private case against the DIG accusing her of humiliating him when he went to meet her on February 28. The case was registered against the DIG and the inspector following a direction from a lower court in Vizag on Thursday under the provisions of SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act. Both the DIG and the police inspector moved the High Court on Friday, seeking a direction to quash the criminal proceedings against them. Soumya Mishra's counsel argued that there was no intent to insult on the part of his client. Nor was it done in public view, he said. When these two ingredients are not there, the Atrocities Act will have no application, he said.
