SC reserves verdict on Sanjay Dutt's plea The Supreme Court today reserved its judgment on the petition filed by Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, seeking permission to contest the coming Lok Sabha elections from Lucknow on a Samajwadi Party ticket. Appearing for Munna Bhai, senior counsel Harish Salve submitted before a bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices P Sathsivam and R M Lodha that it was a fit case for stay of conviction of the petitioner, who has been given a clean chit by the TADA court, as he has only been convicted under the Arms Act in connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts. Mr Salve also pleaded it was a first time offence and Sanjay was possessing illegal arms, because the security of his family members, including his sister, was at stake. He also pleaded that the conviction of his client, who has been sentenced to six-year imprisonment by the TADA court, Mumbai, was solely based on his confession and there was no other evidence.
