The Supreme Court has directed National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to consider the bids of eight companies, instead of six for allotment of tender for development of Hyderabad-Vijayawada section of the national highway (NH 9) in Andhra Pradesh.

A bench comprising Dr Justice Arijit Pasayat and Mr Justice Asok Kumar Ganguly issued the directions for considering the bids made by eight companies for allotment of tender relating to design, engineering, construction, development, finance operation and maintenance of Hyderabad-Vijayawada section of the national highway (NH 9) in Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier, NHAI has decided to consider the bid of only six companies as per clauses 2.21 and 3.52.

The companies whose bids are now be considered are Maytas Infra Ltd, Hindustan Construction Company, Cintra Concession De, Larsen & Toubro Ltd, GVK Power & Infrastructure Ltd, Isolux Corsan Concession, GMR Infrastructure and Madhucon Projects Ltd.

The apex court, however, made it clear that if the credibility of any of the bidder turns out to be doubtful, it is for the NHAI to take appropriate action and in case bidder has any grievance it can be agitated before a appropriate forum.

The apex court took note of the facts that the project is of great importance and expansion of the number of bidder was recommended by the committee set up by the government and no prejudice will be caused to any of the bidder in case the number is changed from six to eight.
