BJP Pilibhit Lok Sabha candidate Varun Gandhi today filed an application in the Supreme Court seeking Rs 10 lakh compensation from the Uttar Pradesh government for his illegal detention under NSA.
The application was mentioned before a bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices P Sathasivam and Deepak Verma for urgent hearing.
The petition, filed by Mr Gandhi challenging his detention under NSA, is already fixed for hearing tomorrow.
The apex court will also hear tomorrow an application filed by the Mayawati government challenging the decision of UP Advisory court revoking NSA against Mr Gandhi. The period of parole also expires tomorrow and he will have to seek extension of the same.
