SC stays High Court order raising fine for traffic violation The Supreme Court has stayed the Delhi High Court order which had raised the fine amount for all traffic rules violation by Rs 500. A bench headed by the Chief Justice K G Balakrishanan passed the order on an appeal against the High Court's order. The High Court in March last year had raised the amount of fine after noting that the amount had not been raised for many years and the fine was not pinching the pockets of traffic rule violators. "He (Driver) shall be liable to pay cost of Rs 500 for each offence committed by him in addition to the complaint fee payable," the court said, adding that the then present amount was insignificant. "The value of money has fallen rapidly and the fine for the violation of traffic rules is a fine which no offender would mind paying," the High Court had observed while raising the fine.
