Bar Council launches in Europe The Bar Council today launched a new Brussels office in a bid to expand the representative body's reach into the European Union. The office will also house the European arms of other legal organisations including the Austrian Bar, German Federal Bar as well as the Law Societies of England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.Bar chair Tim Dutton QC said, "The presence of the Bar Council in Brussels is a vital part of our international strategy, allowing us to contribute our expertise both to those who shape policy at the heart of the European decision-making process, and to those who need the high quality skills of the profession in the heart of Europe."The Bar Council, which has had a presence in Brussels since 1999, took the decision to open an office as it felt it would allow more effective response to policy initiatives and developments. It also sees it as the best way to communicate the knowledge and expertise of the English Bar to European policy makers.
