The Madras High Court has granted interim injunction restraining the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations, Madurai and Coimbatore from proceeding further with impugned tender notifications for privatising certain works.

In his petition, filed by counsel, S.Doraisamy and V.Elangovan, the Tamil Nadu Government Transport Corporations Staff Federation, represented by its State president, D.V.Padmanabhan, said that as a first step towards privatisation, the two transport corporations had issued tender notifications to privatise eight works, including purchase and supply of food material, printing and stationery, work on contract system of body building of buses and renovation. The petitioner contended that the works were so far carried out by workers of the transport corporations. As per an agreement, the corporations could not introduce the labour contract system.

The petitioner submitted that the notifications to award contract to outsiders for carrying out the works was arbitrary, illegal and against the nationalisation policy. Justice K.N.Basha ordered notice of motion returnable in eight weeks.
