A bill on five per cent reservations for Gujjars and 14 per cent quota for upper caste poor will be brought in the Rajasthan Assembly session beginning on 7th July. "The state government is committed to provide quota benefits to Gujjars under the special separate category of backward class, and people of economically backward community (EBC) as promised on June 18 after Gujjar-government accord," BJP treasurer and Rajya Sabha MP Ramdas Agarwal said at a press conference. The BJP is hopeful that the new bill would be passed in the session with a voice vote, he said. The state government is also considering to send a letter recommending Scheduled Tribe status to Gujjars, and as soon as it will be drafted, the public would be informed, he said. Agarwal was the head of the state government delegation which held talks with Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla last week. Meanwhile, the state government today announced the setting up of a 'Dev Narayan Board' for the welfare of the community, an official spokesman said. Sardar Singh Dangas, a retired IAS officer from Madhya Pradesh, has been appointed its first chairman, he said. The board would oversee the implementation of the Dev Narayan Yojna as announced by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in her budget speech last March. The Ramdas Agarwal committee had recommended the board's formation with a welfare package of Rs 282 crore for the seven Gujjar-dominated districts in the state last month.
