The Forum for Right to Information Campaign has welcomed the decision of the judges of Supreme Court of India on Wednesday to make public their assets and said that the issue had been haunting higher judiciary for quite some time.

Terming it a decision in the right direction, the Forum District Chairman P. C. Sai Babu said that the decision comes after months of public debate over making public the details of assets of judges and their families, ever since the Right to Information law triggered a clamour over the issue.

The issue snowballed when the apex court was seen as being reluctant in sharing information on the assets of judges and it filed an appeal in the Delhi High Court against an order of the Central Information Commission that the matter of assets comes within the purview of the judiciary. Following mounting public pressure, the judges had taken the right decision, he added.
