The Supreme Court adjourned by three weeks the hearing of the petition filed by the BJP and some of its MLAs seeking dissolution of Jharkhand Assembly for holding fresh elections in the state.
The petitioners have contended that the Assembly is under suspended animation for more than six months and the Government has put the state under President’s Rule which is impermissible.
The petitioners also contended that a popular government in the state, elected by the people, should be put in place at the earliest possible as it is the Constitutional requirement.
The apex court had earlier issued show cause notices to the Centre and the Election Commission.
