Ahead of Sunday’s crucial meeting of the Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishanan to decide on Justice P D Dinakaran’s elevation to the Supreme Court, the Karnataka High Court Chief Justice dismissed the Thiruvallur Collector’s report that he had encroached on public land. Talking to TOI exclusively on the sidelines of the ‘National Consultation for Strengthening the Judiciary towards reducing Pendency and Delays’, Justice Dinakaran said: “The Collector has got his facts wrong. The report appears to be motivated.” In his report to the Supreme Court the Thiruvallur Collector held that Justice Dinakaran had encroached upon 197 acres of community land in Kaverirajapuram village of the district. “I still stand by what I had told the Chief Justice of India when the controversy broke out. I have not acquired an inch of land after being appointed as a Judge of the High Court. All allegations about encroachment of public land is patently false,” he said.
